What happens when technology goes too far - or not far enough?
In this playful, thought-provoking weekend intensive, Katy Schutte invites you to dive into sci-fi inspired improvisation in the spirit of Black Mirror: bold ideas, human consequences, and stories where relationships matter as much as the concept.
Together, we’ll create speculative worlds shaped by innovation, ambition, fear and hope. From rogue algorithms to emotional androids, we’ll explore how extraordinary circumstances reveal very ordinary needs: connection, belonging, love and power.
The focus is on strong narrative, grounded relationships, tonal control and meaningful escalation. How do we balance satire with sincerity? Darkness with delight? Big concepts with intimate scenes?
Katy is one of the UK’s original long-form improvisers, Head Teacher at Hoopla and half of cult sci-fi duo Project2. Known for her generosity, enthusiasm and razor-sharp insight, she creates a supportive room where ambitious ideas can thrive.
No sci-fi knowledge required - just curiosity and a willingness to explore.
Saturday evening features an optional showcase to share some work inspired by the weekend.
Level: Intermediate and above (long-form/ narrative experience recommended)
